The Hebrew word Beyth-’el (Bethel) found under # 1008 of the Hebrew Strong’s Concordance originated with ’el (God) as his testimony.

And he showed this word to his prophet Jacob in a dream as a name of the house of God and the gate of heaven (Jeremiah 34:15; Psalms 147:19; Genesis 31:11, 13, 28:18-20).

He also established it as his testimony on earth through Jacob that was to continue throughout Yisra’el (Israel) generations (Ps 78:5-7, 10).

After when Jacob woke from his sleep he realized that ’el’s (God’s) dwelling presence was in this place. Then explained what ’el (God) told him in the dream.

He recalled that ’el (God) said “in thee and thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 28:14).

Jacob described that place as the house of God and the gate of heaven. Then named it Beyth-’el (Bethel) (Gen 16-17, 19).

And ’el (God) confirmed that Jacob was correct by saying, “I am the ’el (God) of Beyth-’el (Bethel) where thou anointedst the pillar and vowed a vow unto me” (Genesis 31:11, 13 & Genesis 28:16-22). Making Jacob his true prophet.

No other prophet throughout the Bible before or after Jacob ever gave another name for the house God and the gate of heaven on earth.

This shows that Beyth-’el (Bethel) is the only name for the house of God and the gate of heaven on earth in the entire Bible. And any other name is man-made.

Now, the ancient Hebrew people knew how to speak ancient Hebrew (Exodus 3:18).

Even though they carried the vowels in their mind. Because traditionally they practiced not writing them down.

This is how they preserved the ancient Hebrew language through oral tradition but only among themselves.

Because after assimilating and marrying into other nations, there were some changes in how ancient Hebrew was pronounced among the Hebrews (Nehemiah 13:23-27; Ezekiel 36:8, 19 & Jeremiah 9:15-16).

Many years later this change continued that inspired the Masoretes, an extensive line of Jewish scribes and scholars. To standardize and preserve the Old Testament Hebrew text from the 6th to 10th century.

The resulting Masoretic Text is the authoritative Hebrew text, and the basis for most Old Testament translations giving us the ancient Biblical pronunciation of the name Beyth-’el (Bethel) today.

Because it was to be passed down throughout all generations of Yisra’el (Israel) forever. As a written covenant name used to identify the house of ’el (God) and the gate of heaven on earth (Psalms 78:5-7, 10; Genesis 31:11, 13, 28:10-22).
